MIAMI - A Miami federal grand jury returned an indictment charging three Miami residents with conspiring to induce undocumented aliens to enter and remain in the United States by providing them with employment at a Miami-Dade school construction project, following an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Office of Homeland Security Investigations in Miami and the Miami-Dade County Public Schools' Office of Inspector General (MD-OIG).

The indictment charges Luis Daniel, 59, the president of Hialeah-based Daniel Builders, Inc.; his wife Marta Duque, 57; and his son, Ariel Daniel, 26, with conspiracy to induce aliens to remain in the United States for commercial advantage and private financial gain.

CINCINNATI - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced today that Koch Foods of Cincinnati LLC paid a $536,046 fine for administrative violations of U.S. immigration laws.

The ICE Office of Investigations in Cincinnati conducted a worksite investigation of Koch Foods after receiving information from a concerned citizen alleging that the company was employing more than 100 illegal aliens at their poultry processing facility in the Cincinnati area. In August 2007, ICE subsequently executed a search warrant at Koch's Fairfield, Ohio, processing facility and arrested 161 illegal aliens and seized relevant documents. ICE also executed a search warrant at Koch's corporate offices in Chicago seizing relevant documents.

Temporary Protected Status - Haiti Questions and Answers

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary, Janet Napolitano, has determined that an 18-month designation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti is warranted due to the devastating earthquake and aftershocks which occurred on Jan. 12, 2010. As a result of the earthquake, Haitians who live in the United States are unable to return safely to their country. DHS will continue to work with other branches of the U.S. Government to closely monitor developments in Haiti to determine the need for additional action.

Justice Department and ICE reach $4.5 million agreement with Pilgrim's Pride
 
BEAUMONT, Texas - The federal government and Pilgrim's Pride Corporation have reached a non-prosecution agreement to resolve an investigation involving the hiring and employment of unauthorized aliens at some of the company's Texas plants. The agreement was announced by U.S. Attorney John M. Bales, Eastern District of Texas; John Chakwin, special agent in charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Office of Investigations in Dallas; and Donald Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of Pilgrim's Pride Corporation.

ICE Assistant Secretary John Morton announces 1,000 new workplace audits to hold employers accountable for their hiring practices

WASHINGTON-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Assistant Secretary John Morton today announced the issuance of Notices of Inspection (NOIs) to 1,000 employers across the country associated with critical infrastructure-alerting business owners that ICE will audit their hiring records to determine compliance with employment eligibility verification laws.
